How Are Wedding Bands Different from Eternity Bands

Wedding and eternity bands are two of the most often confused items in the domain of jewelry. Since they are interchangeable, one is frequently taken for another. Although both are exchanged in weddings and have the same symbolic connotation, they are not the one and same. In fact, the differences between the two are so obscure to common knowledge that they are lost on most people. To clear the doubts once and for all, here we have rounded off some of the most significant differences between a wedding and an eternity wedding band.

Purpose

While wedding rings are designed exclusively for exchanging in weddings, eternity bands are not. Although some people choose to exchange eternity bands in their weddings, it is not exactly a wedding ring. Eternity rings work great as gifts on anniversaries though. The idea behind an eternity wedding ring is to express love in its truest form, which is invulnerable to time and tide. The wedding rings encompass the same essence, and because they came before eternity rings, they find precedence in the occasion of weddings.

Design

The designs of wedding and eternity rings are markedly different. However, that is not to say that one cannot be passed for another. More often than not, wedding rings are solitaires. However wedding bands can be anything ranging from plain gold bands to illustrious compositions of designs and details that may or may not use gems. An eternity wedding band on the other hand has a typical component, gems. Sprinkled over in the form of dust or paved across the band, eternity bands are more likely to have diamonds than not. They hardly bear the notched base that is a key characteristic of wedding rings. In some cases, wedding and engagement rings come together, smoldered to one another. Now, this approach is not commonplace, but knowing that some people like the two wielded together for the convenience of wearing, is not as rare either. Eternity bands appear in singles like any other ring.

Diamonds

The inclusion of diamonds in wedding rings is entirely a matter of personal decision. There are still bands that do not use diamonds or any gems for that matter. But for eternity bands, diamonds are a signature. Almost every eternity wedding band ever to see the light of day has diamonds on them, in one form or the other. More often than not, diamonds in eternity bands appear in miniscule fraction-like pieces scatter or lined all around.
