Salient Features of Quality Pear Cut Diamonds

You cannot help but notice the elegant shape of the pear-cut diamonds when you are hoping to invest in an engagement ring. The shape is an offbeat one. However, it would be wise to check out the associated facts before paying a hefty amount of money on a diamond of beautiful yet unusual shape.

What is a pear-cut diamond?

A pear-cut diamond is believed to be a fancy shape for a diamond. A simple explanation is that it does not resemble a round diamond in any way. Also termed a teardrop shape, this diamond is a skillful blend of round and marquise cuts. Do not say ‘yes’ to the first pear diamond you see. Notice it carefully and check the entire outline. Both the shoulders and its wing should have a gentle curvature. The wings should form a beautiful arch too. Flat arches will narrow the shape, and too much-rounded arch will make the diamond appear short and rather stubby. This type of diamond will contain multiple facets to allow maximum light. Hence, that adds to its sparkle, making it look attractive. You would be well advised to remember that a pear-shaped diamond can retain more color compared to a round diamond. It is true of all fancy cuts. You will be impressed with a teardrop diamond, therefore.

Symmetry

A pear-shaped gemstone must be completely symmetrical. Inspecting it at close quarters may give you an idea about its symmetry but you can do better by drawing an imaginary life from top to bottom of the stone lengthwise. Look at the uniformity on both sides. A perfectly symmetrical diamond will have identical halves. Look carefully at the shoulders and arches on either side and opt for one similar on both sides. You may want to check the position of facets on the left and right sides of the diamond too. You have got yourself a perfect diamond if the facets on one side are a mirror image of those on the opposite side.

Sure! It may not be possible to have a 100% symmetrical diamond always. Opt for more symmetrical aspects in such an instance. However, you should avoid buying pear cut diamonds that display the following: -

High shoulders

Wings that appear to bulge out

Flat wings

Undefined points

Position of Table Facet

You must be careful about noticing the table facet. Grab the stone if you find the table centrally placed. It will accentuate the brightness and fire of the pear-shaped diamond. Refrain from buying a diamond with a pronounced bow-tie effect as it can be distracting.

There is no standard way of wearing a pear-shaped diamond. You can wear it either way. However, the conventional engagement ring has the tip of the spear pointing downwards. It is supposed to make your finger appear elongated and narrow. You may do the opposite. Many brides prefer to be unconventional. Again, you may find a few choices to set the teardrop diamond horizontally on a pendant or ring. Feel free to follow your heart as long as the pear-cut diamonds are of good quality and have a good resale value.
